  • Ticket office: on the ground floor, on the left as you enter. During the renovation of the reception areas it works from temporary structures outside the castle.

Public transport

HowWhere
Metro line ALepanto station
Bus 40From Termini station to the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele stop

These directions come from CoopCulture, which sells the tickets; the museum's own pages don't give any.

St Peter's and the Vatican are close by: the Passetto runs towards them. Our guide to the Vatican Museums covers them.

Rules

  • No cloakroom: bring only what you can carry around the whole visit.
  • No animals.
  • Tickets are in your name: bring an original ID.
  • Under-12s must be accompanied.

The official pages give no rules on bag size, photos or food.

Accessibility

  • The museum says visitors with disabilities have limited access, to a partial use of the outdoor spaces.
  • Musei Italiani lists a lift on request, on the right after the museum entrance, an accessible entrance at the main door and an accessible toilet on the ground floor, in the ambulatory of Boniface IX near the Bastione San Marco.
  • For the less accessible upper rooms (Loggia of Julius II, Sala Paolina and others) the museum offers virtual tours on its website.
  • The Passetto has a step-free visit on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.
  • Visitors with disabilities and one companion go in free.

Groups and schools

  • Groups of 10 to 25 people must book; group slots run 9am–5:30pm, with at most one group every 15 minutes.
  • Groups must hire radio headsets at €2 per person. The museum exempts school classes; CoopCulture says they need them too.
  • Schools must book; their tickets are not named, a signed and stamped list of pupils and teachers is enough.
  • Groups are not admitted on the first-Monday afternoons or during evening events.
